Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup round 5: race preview Nürburgring

Following on from BLACK FALCON’s successful debut in the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup at Round 4 in Hungary, the team will now compete in the series finale, which takes place at the famous Nürburgring circuit in Germany this weekend. The Sprint Cup showdown is being held at BLACK FALCON’s home track: the team is based just across from the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the famous long-distance extension that links onto the Grand Prix layout that will be used by the Sprint Cup. 

Hubert Haupt (Germany) and Luca Stolz (Germany) will again be teaming up to drive the #6 BLACK FALCON Mercedes-AMG GT3, with the aim of further adding to Hubert’s points in the Silver Cup standings. Points are awarded across both the Sprint and Endurance Cup disciplines that make up the complete Blancpain GT Series, and with the Endurance Cup’s own finale due at the end of the month, points won at the Nürburgring could make all the difference to the overall outcome.

21 GT3-specification cars are due to take part, with Black Falcon part of a five-strong Silver Cup entry. In Hungary #6 started in an impressive second overall for the second race, so Hubert and Luca will want to exploit their local knowledge to maximise opportunities over the weekend. Hubert currently lies in second place in the combined Silver Cup standings, just 15.5 points off the leading pair of drivers, so a pair of good results at the Nürburgring will be crucial to the team’s title ambitions. 

Friday’s practice sessions are followed by Qualifying at 09:30 CET on Saturday morning, which will set the grids for the two one-hour races that comprise the event. The opening clash will start at 14:05 on Saturday afternoon, with the second at 16:00 CET on Sunday.
