Victory in rookie cup and podium in amateur cup at the Red Bull Ring

BLACK FALCON celebrated multiple achievements at the second race weekend of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany at the Red Bull Ring. Tim Zimmermann was the best Rookie-driver of the weekend scoring his first victory in the junior cup as well as a third place. Sören Spreng achieved his first Carrera Cup podium result in the Amateur cup on Saturday. The team from Meuspath experienced a rollercoaster of emotions in two eventful and exciting races.

Round three and four went nearly ideal for Tim Zimmermann who competes in the Rookie cup for new Carrera Cup drivers younger than 23 as well as in the normal drivers’ championship. The 21-year-old started both races from midfield positions. On Saturday he fought through up to position six overall taking the win in the rookie cup. In the second race on Sunday morning, Zimmermann crossed the line in ninth overall and third in the rookie cup. After four of 14 races, Zimmermann is now second in the rookie championship and seventh in the overall drivers’ classification. “I’m really happy with the weekend and I’m especially happy for the whole team that made a really good job.” said Tim after the race.

In the Amateur cup, Sören Spreng celebrated his first Carrera Cup achievement. The series newbie delivered an outstanding performance over the whole weekend and rewarded himself with his first podium when he finished third on Saturday. Spreng’s second race on Sunday was successful as well: he fought for another podium position all race long until crossing the line as fourth. “The weekend has been great for me. I’m so happy about the podium on Saturday. Being able to compete with the fastest amateur drivers that early in the season is a great sign for the rest of the season. I did not think that I’d be so competitive at the begin of the year. Thank you to the team that delivered a great car.” said the 31-year-old who is now third in the Amateur championship.

For Carlos Rivas, the weekend was a rollercoaster of emotions. A flat tyre in the free practice stopped him early and he ended up with just a single lap. Lacking the experience from free practice, the Luxembourgian had to settle for midfield positions in the qualifying. At the start of race one, Rivas had an excellent start and delivered an outstanding performance over the whole race fighting up the order to find himself in the top 10 overall while leading the Amateur cup. But luck wasn’t on his side when a safety car period came to an end just one lap before the chequered flag and two competitors crashed him out of the race into the gravel trap of turn 3. The next morning, Rivas once again had an amazing start overtaking several cars on the way to turn 2 where he already was in second position of the Amateur classification. After a contact with another car the fragile air cooler of his car was damaged, and the race was once again over for Rivas, this time on lap one. “We had the speed to win both races in the amateur cup, but now we have no points at all. For sure that’s not what we expected from the weekend, but now we’ll move the focus to our home race at the Nürburgring in August where we’ll fight back.” said a disappointed Rivas.
