Team BLACK FALCON successful at VLN round two

2016 04 30 sliderMeuspath/Nürburgring. BLACK FALCON scored a total of three podiums and great results at VLN´s second race. The two AMG-Team BLACK FALCON cars finished in second place overall and in Top-10, while BLACK FALCON Team TMD Friction´s Porsche 911 GT3 Cup „BF“ was victorious in it´s class SP7.

The 41. DMV 4-Hour-Race was determined by April´s infamous weather conditions. During the day a various number of rain showers were the reason for a lot of work in the pits and challenged the drivers and strategist at the pits to their limit.

During the qualyfiying the formerly wet track dried up slowly and allowed the teams to start a last attack on the pole position, finally with slick tyres. In a breathtaking finish Maro Engel set the fastest lap of the morning and saved AMG-Team BLACK FALCON´s number 6 Mercedes-AMG GT3 and his teammates Bernd Schneider, Adam Christodoulou and Manuel Metzger the overall pole-position. In class SP7 Tim Scheerbarth and Alexander Toril took pole with their number 56 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup „BF“ of BLACK FALCON Team TMD Friction. The class H4 entered Porsche 997 Cup driven by Carsten Knechtges, „Takis“ and Jürgen Bleul took third pole position for the team.

After the qualyfiying came to an end another rain shower hit the Nürburgring and forced the teams into a tough decision of tyre choice for the start of the race. All eight BLACK FALCON cars started with rain tyres into the „wet-race“ declared four-hour distance and had to change their tyres after two laps. Although the first period challenged the team, all cars were in a good position for the first hour. Unfortunately number 395 Porsche 911 Carrera (class V6, Schoeller/Toril) had a small crash and had to retire after rain eventually stroke back in the seventh lap of the race.

Close to the end of the race, Vatne/„Sugar Mountain“ had to retire their Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport as well. Driving on slick tyres, a third rain shower during the race forced them into the barriers and they parked the car in the pits afterwards. Also Mercedes-AMG GT3 number 7 (Al Faisal/„Gerwin“/Dontje) had to retire just before the end because of a technical issue.

The Pole-Setters however were more lucky: Christodoulou finished the race in the BILSTEIN-coloured Mercedes-AMG GT3 as second overall. Therefore the driver quartett was allowed to visit the VLN-Podium again after their third place at the opening round four weeks ago. The sister car number 9 (Haupt/Buurman/Engel) finished in ninth position and became third-best Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Alexander Toril and Tim Scheerbarth were able to reproduce their hattrick achieved in the last race. The duo managed to win their class SP7, set the fastest lap of the race in their class and took pole earlier in the day. In entrant category H Knechtges/„Takis“/Bleul had a hard fight for the win but eventually came in second. The BLACK FALCON Team TMD Friction Porsche Cayman number 448 (Palluth/Alesayi) finished the race in a strong fourth position in a 14 cars strong class V5.

„All three BLACK FALCON teams made a brilliant job today“, said team principal Alexander Böhm. „We´re really happy with the results, especially with the class victory in SP7 and the second place overall with our BILSTEIN-Mercedes-AMG GT3. Also you need to recognize the fourth place of the Porsche Cayman in V5. It was Bandar Alesayi´s first race at the Nordschleife and the weather would´ve made success hard on every other track as well.

The next round of VLN championship will take place in two weeks time on 14th May. It´s the last test before the ADAC ZURICH 24h Race at the end of May.
